· Weather Update
We lose 1 hour and 34 minutes of daylight in the month of September and see a sunset before 6pm in October.
The rapid loss of daylight occurs as the Earth’s axis tilts away from the sun, and it slows down after the Autumnal Equinox on September 22nd.
We will adjust tee times accordingly so that play is during daylight hours.
Please keep in mind when thunder roars go indoors
· Tee Times
· Times will change with changes in sunrise and sunset times.
Superintendent's Corner
This summer has been extremely dry and hot, but we are approaching the cool fall
Months. Our water source is very low. We are conserving and managing things responsibly and intelligently. It would be much appreciated if any of you knew any good rain dances!
We just aerated our greens with 1/4” solid tines and over seeded greens, and In September, we will continue aerating and over seeding fairways and tees in several hard pack and problem areas. If you’ve noticed, we’ve been periodically topdressing our tees. They have really responded well. We hope these further levels and establishes great tees in the fall and beyond. We get a lot of play and move the tee markers around as much as possible. Keeping up with regrowing divots is a task, but we’ve done an excellent job. We are set up for great success this fall.
We will also be spot aerating problem areas in the rough and topdressing/seeding those this fall. We hope to continue our success and growth in those areas. I’m excited and encouraged with the improvements in the rough this season. We will continue to push those areas further along.
Many people ask what aeration is and what our process is. We all aerify all playing surfaces each fall to open channels in the turf to break up thatch. This helps with water movement, provides plants access to nutrients and allows natural gases in the soil profile to escape and oxygen to reach the plants roots. We top-dress them with 1mm sand to keep them level and firm. The topdressing also helps us maintain our soil composition, so the greens play well and drain well. The impact on playability is very small. Most players won’t even notice the tiny holes made during spiking.
As always, thank you for your support and please remember to fix ball marks. It takes a few seconds to fix, and unfixed ball mark takes 15 days to heal. I’ve noticed an uptick in ball marks and sunflower seeds. Please to not spit anything on the greens.
Thank you all!
